Core message

Whilst we appreciate all people are doing to help the NHS during this time, it’s vital those with non-coronavirus health concerns still seek help as they would have before the outbreak.

The NHS is here for you, so don’t ignore the warning signs. You are not being a burden, you are looking after yourself and our NHS by doing so.

If you notice a deterioration in your health or someone in your household, call your GP in normal hours, 111 out of hours, or in an emergency dial 999.

Your community pharmacy and your GP are open, please contact them for advice or with concerns.

If you are concerned about a potential sign or symptom of cancer contact your GP practice to get checked.

If you or your child has an immunisation appointment, make sure you attend, or reschedule if you’re showing symptoms of COVID-19.

If you have a regular appointment for a chronic condition such as asthma or diabetes you should contact your GP and they will advise you. If your hospital appointment has not be cancelled you should still attend.

Fast deteriorating conditions

Ladies between the age of 16-64 can attend Boots Pharmacy in Beauly if they feel they have a urine infection and can be treated by the pharmacist.

Our Practice List size continues to grow as Beauly and the surrounding area are developing, which means an increasing workload for the practice to manage. In order to do this we have to monitor and try to continuously improve the quality of our services in order to deliver a safe, efficient and effective service for all our patients.  Therefore we have made some changes to our appointment system in order to meet the demands of our rising patient population.


In order for patients to consult with the most appropriate healthcare professional the receptionist will need to ask questions.  Please be prepared to give our trained reception staff details regarding the problem to enable them to triage your request to the most appropriate professional. ie Nurse, Healthcare Assistant or Doctor.  You may also be directed to other health professional where appropriate, Pharmacy, Optician, Physio etc.  Thank you for your patience.


We have telephone appointments where you can speak to with a GP for a routine telephone consultation.


If a home visit is required please contact us before 10am that day. The GP visiting will phone you before they visit so please be available to take the call.


Our local pharmacy will see patients for minor ailments which is available at pharmacies across Scotland. Ailments such as:


  • Coughs, colds and sore throats
  • Minor skin conditions and acne, athletes foot
  • Sty’s and minor eye infections
  • Head lice                                                                                            
  • Pain, including backache
  • Cold sores
  • Diarrhoea/constipation
  • Colic
  • Thrush
  • Urinary Tract Infection for female between ages of 16 - 65

Usual GPs


Due to an increased workload it may not be possible to always see your usual GP for appointments.

We will try to enable people to book in advance with a named GP, however there can be a wait for a named GP of up to a few weeks. If you are unable to wait for a named GP we have asked the reception staff to offer you the choice of waiting to see your named GP or to see another GP in the practice.

We can only accept patients booking one appointment in advance with a GP. 

If you need to see a GP urgently, we have a limited number of on-the-day appointments available. We cannot guarantee who you will be seen by. On occasion it may be necessary for one of the duty team to call you back for more details to establish the nature of your problem and to ensure you are allocated an appointment in a suitable time-frame. 


Home Visits


We will visit housebound patients if needed.  However we would ask that patients with transport difficulties explore other options for getting to the surgery if at all possible. We realise that getting to the practice can be difficult and we can offer some appointment flexibility if necessary around bus times if this is appropriate.


Results Policy


It is the patient's responsibility to phone for results, however we will usually contact patients if any action needs to be taken after a blood test or X-ray.


We ask that you leave a minimum of 1 week after your blood test and 2 weeks after an X-ray was taken before phoning for a result, unless a GP has indicated that result will be available sooner.


Please phone between 2-5pm for results.


Patients Rights & Responsibilities


As a patient you have certain rights and responsibilities:



  • To use the NHS and to be treated equally no matter what your race, sex, age, sexuality or disability.
  • Expect NHS organisations to monitor and try to improve continuously the quality of their services.
  • Be treated with dignity and respect.
  • Accept or refuse treatment and only be physically examined with consent.
  • Be given information about any test and treatment options open to you.
  • Privacy and confidentiality.  


  • Please always treat practice staff politely and with respect. Violence or racial, sexual or verbal abuse is completely unacceptable and may lead to removal from our list.
  • Keep your appointment or cancel as soon as you are aware you can’t make it so that another patient can be given that time.
  • Call 999 for suspected heart attack, stroke or if patient is unconscious and ask for an ambulance.
  • Only use our emergency appointments in matters of real urgency (patients likely to require hospital admission that day, chest pain, sepsis, unwell child).
  • Follow the advice and treatment you receive.
  • Make sure the practice has up to date information on how to contact you.
  • Try to take any medicine, which is prescribed and finish the course of treatment.
  • Do not take medicine, which is out of date, and give old medicine to your pharmacist to destroy.
  • Look after your own health and think about how you could have a healthier lifestyle.




Duty of Candour

The practice is required to comply with the duty of candour legislation.  This involves providing an annual return to the Scottish Government, a copy of which can be obtained by speaking with the Practice Manager.
